ANTONINE CENTRE
RUBBLE AND RUINS
With the development of the Antonine Centre delayed numerous times, the demolished portion of the Town Centre (the former Woolco/Asda) was left in the condition as seen below for around 10 years:

DEMOLITION OF A CARBUNCLE?
By the time the new Millennium arrived, Cumbernauld Town Centre had become a laughing stock, the butt of jokes and regularly named one of the country’s ugliest buildings. It won the 'Carbuncle Award’, the so-called ‘Plook on a Plinth’ twice - in 2001 and 2005. Also in 2005, it was named the ‘winner’ of Channel 4’s series Demolition, where viewers could vote for the building they most wanted to see demolished out of a shortlist of 12. In this section, we highlight stories looking at both of these unwelcome ‘victories’.
Unfortunately, footage of the Demolition series is hard to track down online - here is a trailer for the series and a short clip from an episode, embedded here from YouTube.

MADNESS
Our final doses of ‘Retail Madness’ are slightly different - instead of archive adverts for stores we have photos of the inside of the malls. This section shows photos of the Antonine Centre dating from 2011, plus two final adverts for some of the newer stores.

LISTING APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
In 2022, an application was made to have the Town Centre given listed building status, thus preventing its demolition. The application failed, clearing the way for redevelopment.
