THE FALL OF FLEMING HOUSE
The office block which came to be called Fleming House was demolished in 2025 as part of North Lanarkshire Council’s plan to reimagine and redevelop the entire Town Centre (see the FUTURE section for details). Initially the plan was for this to become the site of a new bus station - yes, this has been talked about for 60 years and never happened! - but plans are still to be confirmed and the future of the site remains unclear.

TOWN CENTRE TOUR
An extensive collection of photos showing the Town Centre at the time of writing, in mid-2026. These include interior and exterior shots of Phase 1, 2, 4 and the Antonine Centre. Brief descriptions are given of each photo.
The Phase 4 mall is currently being emptied in preparation for demolition - only a handful of businesses remain open.
All photos were taken by the author.

KIRKLAND CICCONE’S SECRET CENTRE
In 2022, author Kirkland Ciccone gained access to closed-off areas of the Town Centre, including the former penthouses on level 4, and documented what he saw there. With his kind permission, his photos are reproduced here.

ST. MUNGO’S FIRE
In 2025 a terrible fire left the iconic St. Mungo’s Church a burned-out shell. Here are a few shots and an article about the fire. The church intend to rebuild, so hopefully St. Mungo’s will rise from the ashes before too long.
